It's an exciting time for textiles. Like most designers, I'm a fan of modern art, and some of my favourite brands abroad have thrown a veritable Pattern Party for some of my favourites (See Bobo Choses' Magritte jumpsuit and pic with the bowler hat - swoon!).
What also excites me about this is that it seems we may be starting to stomach designs that buck the monochrome trend. Don't get me wrong, I love mono. I design in mono. But I think it takes great bravery to commit to colour...to choose palettes and stand behind them. And so I applaud the bravery of these overseas brands.
But, Ellie! I thought we were talking Australian textiles?! Oh, just you wait. I have a veritable feast of Australian goodness to come, but I think it important to talk about what's happening abroad, where we fit into the scheme of things and the fabulous offerings we have for the global market. Stay tuned for my first brand interview tomorrow with one of my favourites...meanwhile, feast your eyes on some of the current Queens of Colour:
